The City of Sarajevo once again joined the celebration of European Mobility Week (September 16–22) with a series of events and initiatives promoting sustainable, safe, and accessible modes of transportation.
The highlight of this year’s program was the donation of an electric vehicle for children with disabilities at the Olympic Pool Otoka. This initiative, carried out in cooperation with GIZ and supported by Germany and the European Union, will ensure safe and dignified transport for children to the pool. Mayor Samir Avdić emphasized Sarajevo’s commitment to a green, sustainable, and inclusive future.
Through a public call, the City of Sarajevo provided subsidies for the purchase and repair of bicycles, further encouraging a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle. The youngest citizens showcased their skills at “Bike Day” on Wilson’s Promenade, where they practiced safe cycling and learned traffic rules through interactive quizzes.
New mobility options were also introduced – Sarajevo now offers an electric bike rental service by BinBin, marking another step forward toward modern and eco-friendly urban transport.
A promotional video “Mobility for All – sustainable, safe and accessible!” was broadcast on tram screens across the city, reminding citizens of the importance of adopting more sustainable ways of moving around.
In addition, a special invitation was launched for the Bike2Work & Walk2Work campaign, encouraging citizens to share their photos and stories of commuting by bike or on foot, inspiring others to embrace healthier and more sustainable travel habits.
During European Mobility Week, a competition for the youngest participants was also announced, titled “Child Traffic Safety – Show Your Creativity 2025”, where children can showcase their vision of safe mobility through drawings, photos, and video works. The competition is organized by Saobraćajna edukacija and the Canton of Sarajevo, and submissions are open until October 20, 2025.
In this way, Sarajevo once again sent a clear message – the future of cities lies in sustainable mobility that connects health, ecology, and social inclusion.
