Municipality of Centar Sarajevo in cooperation with UNDP, Faculty of Architecture - University of Sarajevo & City of Sarajevo is starting an initiative called "Re-imagine my street". This is the first initiative of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which aims to contribute to inclusive and sustainable urban transformation through the collective sharing of ideas for renovation and improvement of public spaces by citizens and the implementation of concrete actions that will result in green, colorful and pleasant streets and public areas in the municipality of Centar.
The project involves the design and development of a digital platform that would serve for the interactive collection of citizens' ideas about certain public areas in the municipality of Centar, and where urban transformations are planned. It is planned for this digital platform to be functional and active in October 2021 on the official website of the Municipality of Centar.
The platform will serve as a tool for conducting more inclusive, interesting and efficient public consultations on the topic of urban public areas. Also, this simple digital tool would serve as a kind of online repository of ideas and suggestions of citizens on the basis of which to approach the reconstruction and transformation of the site. Citizens' ideas and visions will be collected for the desired functionality of the public space, but also for the social, physical, ecological, economic and cultural form and content of the same.
Citizens will be able to present their ideas for green and accessible urban infrastructure (eg renovation and greening of facades, renovation of public lighting, removal of spatial barriers, relocation of parking, green infrastructure, greening of roofs, urban farms, etc.), equipment and facilities new benches, waste bins, bicycle parking, canopies, etc.), artistic, cultural and other creative activities, exhibitions and performances in the open air, sports and recreational areas, children's playgrounds, street festivals and markets, outdoor libraries and others content or other innovative visions that can contribute to making urban spaces more comfortable, sustainable, more fun and more focused on a better quality of life.
Once the ideas and suggestions of citizens for the selected location are collected, the project will work on turning collective ideas into scenarios for the transformation of urban areas. These scenarios will also be used to develop virtual and augmented reality presentations, enabling citizens to have a different experience in imagining the public spaces of the future.
Five priority locations will be included in the process of collective ideation through the digital platform in the period October - November this year, namely: part of the street "Musala" (from "Obala kulina bana" to the street "Miss Irbina"), "Radićeva" street, " Hastahana ”,“ Franca Lehara ”Boulevard and“ gray zones ”along“ Branilaca Sarajeva ”Street (on the stretch from“ Šenoina ”to“ Radićeva ”Street).
Following the public consultation, one of the five selected pilot sites will be renovated based on citizens ’ideas and will serve as a demonstration of sustainable urban transformation, encouraged and guided by local communities.
The Municipality of Centar, together with its partners, will inform citizens about the upcoming digital public consultations and is ready to support creative and constructive feedback from citizens and proposals for the reconstruction or development of public spaces in the municipality.
