The European Mobility Week is taking place in Sarajevo from 16th to 22nd September with the combined forces of all relevant actors under the slogan "Move Sustainably. Stay Healthy"
The City of Sarajevo, the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, the European Union Info Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Association of Traffic and Communications Engineers, in partnership with Nextbike, Beebee, Giro di Sarajevo, Centrotrans and other representatives of the private and non-governmental sector, send positive messages. urban mobility in our city.
The following activities will be organized in Sarajevo this week:
- The City of Sarajevo with the online campaign "Mobility is better in Sarajevo thanks to ..." will present examples of good practices every day in order to inspire others to improve mobility through their actions, and thus the quality of life in the city.
- During the European Mobility Week, the Ministry of Transport of KS will provide all interested parties with free transport by the newly established railway line on the route Sarajevo - Hadžići (Pazarić) - Sarajevo;
- The Association of Traffic and Communication Engineers is implementing a project: Mapping "healthy" areas for the movement of sustainable non-motorized vehicles in the Sarajevo area. This activity seeks to identify existing and potential areas in the city and suburbs that are available for the movement of roller skates, bicycles, scooters, electric scooters, with the least air pollution;
- On Sunday, September 19, the Beebee company will provide free unlocking of Beebee for all registered users;
- As part of the celebration of the European Mobility Week, Wilson's promenade will be closed to motor traffic on September 21, so it will be completely turned into a pedestrian zone that day;
- On Tuesday, September 21, the Info Center of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the local government, Sarajevo Canton and the City of Sarajevo, is organizing an educational and promotional event for all generations. In addition to numerous recreational and fun activities, including the Children's Competition in knowledge of traffic regulations and cycling skills at the training ground, we will learn about sustainable mobility, traffic safety, and valuable prizes are provided for the most successful participants. During the event, Wilson's Promenade will be closed to motor vehicles;
- On the last day of the mobility week, Wednesday, September 22, Nextbike will enable free use of the Nextbike system for all registered users;
Along with the activities of the European Mobility Week, the Ministry of Transport of KS is continuously working to improve the quality and development of public transport, procurement of new trolleybuses and trams, as well as reconstruction of the tram line, all in order to provide citizens with public transport to improve urban mobility in the canton.
European Mobility Week is celebrated around the world from 16 to 22 September 2021. This European initiative encourages cities to introduce and promote sustainable means of transport and connect citizens to use alternative means of transport. In 2002, the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment launched the "European Mobility Week" campaign, which is organized every year, and the activities end on September 22 with the celebration of "World Car Free Day".
