The City of Sarajevo is establishing the Regional Network of the Cities for the Western Balkans in the frame of the initiative “Strengthening of the network of project teams of selected WB6 cities for more efficient use of funds from the EU and other donors”. This initiative is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Cooperation (GIZ), with the technical assistance of the Network of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS).
The first members of the City Network are nine cities from WB6: Bar, Podgorica, Leskovac, Sveti Nikole, Novi Pazar, Priština, Elbasan, Mostar and Sarajevo.
Three of the above-mentioned cities, Podgorica, Elbasan and Sarajevo, are part of 100 Climate Neutral Cities EU Mission, and this connection will be specially cherished in the work of the Network. Through this Initiative GIZ, has provided these nine cities with equipment (laptops, moderation kits, pin boards, etc.) to strengthen the capacities of the teams.
Their capacities will be additionally strengthened through training, mentoring, and support in at least four joint project applications.The purpose of the Network is to strengthen the project teams in the cities in order to attract additional resources from available EU and other Funds, in order to improve the quality of life in these communities.
On this occasion, Mayors of the nine cities, will gather in Sarajevo, March 7th to sign the Memorandum of Understanding, which will mark the establishment of the Network.
In parallel to the MoU signing, the Networking workshop for the focal points of the cities is organized in order to kick off this initiative and the work of the Network.
