The City of Sarajevo proudly joins the IMPETUS (Improving Local Policies on Temporary Uses) project as a partner. Co-financed through the Interreg Europe program, this forward-looking, four-year initiative commenced in March 2023 and will continue through May 2027, backed by a substantial budget of € 1,629,450, with support from the European Regional Development Fund.
The IMPETUS project is dedicated to advancing the temporary use of urban spaces throughout Europe. The project aims to improve the way cities and regions design policies for sustainable development plans, taking into account temporary uses for abandoned or underutilised spaces to be regenerated.
Temporary uses aim to activate processes of regeneration and valorisation of disused or abandoned buildings and urban spaces while encouraging the development of economic, social and cultural initiatives in cities. This objective will be achieved by promoting the exchange of experiences and innovative approaches through the identification, dissemination and transfer of good practices among the project partners. Capacity-building activities will enable partners to compare their experiences on how to incorporate temporary uses into integrated sustainable urban development strategies with those of other cities and regions. This will result in the adoption of good practices that encourage new forms of urban governance, stimulate the development of inclusive and accessible services and infrastructures for all, encourage co-creation and co-design with citizens, associations and SMEs, and ensure the cooperation of all societal actors to address complex urban challenges.
Advancing Urban Spaces
As the lead partner, the National Association of Italian Municipalities Tuscany (ANCI Toscana) has brought together an impressive consortium of local and regional authorities, associations, and development agencies from Italy, Spain, France, Poland, Romania, Latvia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The City of Sarajevo, through its Department for Sustainable Development, plays an active and integral role in this project. The city contributes significantly to the exchange of expertise and the implementation of pioneering approaches to the temporary use of spaces. Collaborating closely with partners across Europe, the City of Sarajevo remains committed to promoting urban development and creating vibrant, functional urban environments through sustainable and innovative solutions for temporary space uses.
