Representatives of the City of Sarajevo, through the City Service for Sustainable Development, participated in the final Policy Brokerage meeting of the IMPETUS project, held in Riga, Latvia.
This two-day event gathered project partners from across Europe and focused on sharing experiences, exploring alternative financing models, and discussing mechanisms for the temporary use of urban spaces. Participants engaged in thematic working groups and exchanged practices from different territorial contexts.
A special highlight of the meeting was the opportunity to meet the newly elected Mayor of Riga, Mr. Viesturs Kleinbergs, who expressed strong interest in the topic of temporary uses and showed willingness to follow the project’s further development.
As part of the study visits, the participants explored successful initiatives led by the NGO FREE RIGA, including KM12 – a former 19th-century printing house currently repurposed for cultural and community activities – and the “Veldze” beverage factory, which is undergoing a gradual transformation into a creative and cultural centre.
The group also visited Riga Central Market, where future redevelopment plans were presented. These aim to preserve the market’s historical identity while adapting it to the contemporary needs of the city and its residents.
The City of Sarajevo would like to extend sincere thanks to the hosts for their warm welcome and generous hospitality.
