From June 30 to July 4, 2025, a delegation from the City of Sarajevo’s Department for Sustainable Development took part in the second URWAN Living Lab and Transnational Partners Meeting in Cuba, Portugal, under the Interreg Euro-MED programme.
The Bosnian delegation also included:
- Ilda Tanjo, representing the associated partner – Institute for Development Planning of Sarajevo Canton,
- Amila Brajić, representing the stakeholder partner – Faculty of Forestry, University of Sarajevo.
The event brought together partners from across Mediterranean cities to share experiences and explore the implementation of nature-based solutions (NbS) in urban areas – including water management, green infrastructure, institutional coordination, and capacity building.
During thematic discussions, Sarajevo’s representatives highlighted:
the complexity of institutional structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina,
the lack of inter-institutional coordination,
and the need to strengthen expertise in urban forestry and sustainability.
Participants engaged in hands-on group work addressing real-life urban challenges and visited local NbS initiatives demonstrating community engagement in climate adaptation, water conservation, and green space maintenance.
With partnerships strengthened and future steps identified, the City of Sarajevo reaffirms its commitment to building a more resilient, greener, and sustainable urban future.
