City of Sarajevo's Urban Garden & Sensory Park is among the 116 European urban practices awarded the URBACT Good Practice label
On 29 October 2024, the URBACT Programme that supports sustainable urban development across Europe selected 116 URBACT Good Practices from those submitted following the open call running from 15 April till 30 June 2024. An URBACT Good Practice is an urban initiative that is impactful, participatory, integrated, relevant and easy to transfer to other European cities.
Each selected practice upholds URBACT’s commitment to citizen engagement and integrated approach to urban policies and practice, offering tested solutions that cities across Europe can adapt to their local context. Fostering inclusivity and resilience through Sarajevo's first sensory urban garden
The Urban Garden & Sensory Park offers an inclusive recreational space for children with developmental disabilities while promoting intergenerational connections. It revitalizes underutilized urban spaces, supports biodiversity, and fosters social cohesion in Sarajevo. Recognized with the 2023 Green Champions of the Western Balkans award.
Urban Garden & Sensory Park - Sarajevo at the 2025 URBACT City Festival
Following this recognition, City of Sarajevo will be promoted across Europe and invited to showcase the Urban Garden & Sensory Park at the 2025 URBACT City Festival alongside other forward-thinking European cities. URBACT City Festivals are a celebration of cities and the practices that shape our urban communities. The 2025 edition of the event will take place on 8-10 April 2025 in Wroclaw, and provide the space to discover the wealth of URBACT Good Practices, with a focus on building partnerships for URBACT’s Transfer Networks.
